Are You Fit or Fat?

Although the jury is still out as to whether you’re better off losing weight or exercising—the old fit vs. fat debate—new evidence shows that both sides have merit. The advantage of being fit has strong support according to a new study by the University of Florida, which shows that regular exercising can reduce the risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes. Another study reported in the Journal of American Medical Association shows that excess weight is a strong factor in developing type 2 diabetes.

For now the best advice is that those who exercise and are not obese have far less risk of developing disease. Evidence from both of these studies shows the benefit of exercise and losing excess weight. So work on your weight and get moving—you can't go wrong.
