Medical Second Opinion, Inc. was founded in 1982 as a health-education corporation to encourage ordinary citizens to participate in their own health care decisions.  At the time of its establishment, there was little concern about the delivery of health care services or costs.  Yet, we were convinced that it would be beneficial to inform patients and even physicians of growing field of medical advancements resulting form the billions of dollars invested in medical research, and believed that many of these advancements offered better alternatives to established procedures in the areas of effectiveness, safety, patient comfort and cost.  To this end, Consumer Health Publications was established as a division of Medical Second Opinions, Inc. to produce newsletters that would assist ordinary men and women in making wise health care decisions.  These newsletters were sponsored by business and corporations and distributed, free of charge to their employees.

 

During the 1980’s, as concerns about quality health care grew and as the costs of health care spiraled, a growing number of corporate leaders began to share our conviction that employees who understand how to maintain their own good health will have much of the information they need to help contain health care costs.  As a consequence, more and more corporation sought the services of Consumer Health Publications in developing newsletters that could be distributed to their employees.  Educations materials developed by Consumer Health Publications now reach over one million readers nationwide.

 

Today, Consumer Health Publications, with expertise unmatched in the industry, is considered a leader in employee education and heath care cost containment.  Its focus has been expanded to incorporate insurance subscriber education, doctor and hospital provider materials, health care industry information directed to corporate leaders and products meeting the needs of the public sector.  Other recipients of its educational material include business executives, retirees and children.  Surveys are conducted periodically to measure the effectiveness of the educational materials produced.
